Music

I just learned about this weekly event last week.  One of my favorite local blues bands is scheduled to play on August 1st.  There are also weekly band performances on Friday and Saturday evenings at a 'tiki bar' set up next to a diner and sometimes students from a neighborhood music academy perform at the weekly farmer's market. I think it is very cool that there is so much music around here.

Americana

Red, white and blue, our nation's colors, are also one of the color schemes on several buildings in this part of Kentlands.  This is the side of Star Diner.

I should point out that I am usually a Nikon snob and most of the photographs posted on my other photo blogs were shot with a Nikon D80.  Many of the pictures on this blog, so far, were taken with an iPhone 4.  My Nikon shots would be sharper and I would normally go an extra step in Photoshop.  Much to my surprise, however, these iPhone pics aren't bad.

There are several 'grooming' establishments in this neighborhood.  Barbers, stylists, nail salons.

Coffee

One of my rituals since moving here last year is to get a cup of coffee, sit on a bench and 'people watch'.  Kentlands is a great place to see the full diversity of Montgomery County, Maryland.  Many ethnicities and generations are represented here by residents as well as businesses.  Young singles, young and middle-aged families who live in the apartments, townhouses and single family houses and seniors in the local senior apartments stroll through the walkable neighborhood and often stop to sample the array of restaurants, including Columbian, Chinese, Japanese, Moroccan, French, Italian, Mexican, Thai and more.

Another New Blog

I've decided to delete my Gaithersburg Daily Photo blog and start this one focusing on the Kentlands and Lakelands neighborhoods.  Pictures coming soon.
